Prologue
Once again, Rob and Diane are celebrating a wedding
anniversary in Victoria, B.C. The first
time was in 2002, when we flew into Victoria Harbour Airport from Seattle on a
Kenmore Air Floatplane, and spent the day as a pedestrian tourist (except for
the bicycle taxi ride we took just for the fun of it). This time we will pack up the Transit Connect
with our Trek gravel bikes, drive to Port Angeles and onto the Black Ball Ferry,
crossing the Salish Sea into Victoria Harbour. Over several days, we plan to bicycle, out and
back, four trails: Galloping Goose, Lochside,
E&N, and Cowichan Valley Trail. We also plan to motor up to Port Renfrew
and hike down to Botanical Beach to explore the tide pools, reportedly one of
the most amazing places on the entire West Coast, due to its tide pools filled with
purple, red and orange starfish and sea urchins, blue mussel shells, white
gooseneck barnacles, and green sea anemones and sea cucumbers, along with a
broad spectrum of intertidal life. What
a great way to celebrate 49 years!
